Everything becomes overly-simplified when the sun comes out. You were never unreasonably unhappy, it’s just that contentment for you hinges on wearing shorts without catching a chill and that hasn’t been possible for many moons. You miss the (sub)tropics, you are supposed to live in the (sub)tropics, it’s in your blood. (Although technically NYC is “subtropical” now but that’s like saying beer is good for your heart.) Even though you left the subtropics because you got bored. But you were 25, what does anyone know, decisions made at a quarter-life do not constitute a reliable pattern. If your life was sports, what data would they track? What points would they model over time? You’re a midfielder, only girl, youngest child, blue eyes. With a strained hamstring, currently, but they mainly prescribe “aggressive stretching”. What would passive-aggressive stretching be? Doing downward dog and rolling your eyes, but they can’t see. All you know is over the weekend in Florida, you were watching a palm tree flit in the breeze of a 10-minute downpour, and you felt the way you have always wanted to feel.
